hi-no-kagu-tsuchi-no-kami

The kami of fire who is worshiped for protection from fire at Akiba-san hongu akiba jinka, a shrine at Mt. Akiba in Shizuoka (said to have been founded in 709 CE). Fire dances, called hi-no-mai, are performed at this shrine on December 16th by priests whirling flaming torches. Cp. Kagutsuchi.
